CHRISTIAN KITCHEN is a charity run by volunteers from local churches, including a very loyal and committed team from St Patrick’s. Each night of the year we prepare a free, hot and nutritious meal for local street homeless people. We serve 35-40 people every night in Mission Grove car park. We receive no central or local government funding, relying solely on donations. If you can spare any money for our work, our bank details are CHRISTIAN KITCHEN; Sort Code 30-91-21: Acc No. 01094165. Please remember local homeless people. Many thanks.

ENCYCLICAL OF POPE LEO XIV

27. In light of what has been said so far, the Church’s Social Doctrine can be seen more authentically. It is not a handbook of principles and norms to be applied, but a process of shared discernment. It is born from the encounter between the eternal truth of the Gospel and the questions of history. It allows itself to be challenged by the signs of the times, and draws nourishment from the contributions of science, culture and human experience. Therefore, when the dignity of our brothers and sisters is violated, when politics fails to address the tragedies of humanity, when the economy turns against the person or science oversteps the limits of its competence, [22] the Church — together with other Christian denominations and believers of other religions — must make her voice heard, not in order to dominate, but to promote communion. Understood in this way, Social Doctrine becomes a theology of communion in history, a history in which the Word made flesh continues to be present through dialogue, memory and prophecy.

LAUDATE SI’ NEWS

1. 2026 is the 450th anniversary of the birth of Bl. Alix Le Clerc, co-founder with St Pierre Fourier, of our band of sisters. Wherever we are present throughout the world we are going for life and having events to celebrate with joy God’s creativity! Here in the UK, our small band of sis. & associates, decided to mark it with a workshop on “Prayer, Resistance and Gospel non-violence”. It’s a hands-on day, led by Sr Katrina Alton, National Chaplain to Pax Christi England & Wales https://paxchristi.org.uk/ All are welcome & it’s free. Date: 13th June 10 am – 4 pm, Venue: Blackhorse Rd Baptist Church, our neighbour. We would have had it at St Pat’s but there isn’t as yet internet facility.

Check the poster in the porch & take a handout.

2. “Magnificent Humanity”, that’s you and me, and is the name of P. Leo XIV's first encyclical. You can view him presenting it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxcXcP6NyRM And CAFOD has provided a breakdown of its contents with an explanation. https://share.google/yuHv2gje2AWOGrgoV
